A Mary Downey resided at Gortadroma in 1852 when Griffith's Valuation Survey was compiled. Mary leased 42 and ¼ acres of land in that townland. It is possible that Mary is Catherine's widowed mother since women are generally only listed if their husbands have died. Church records include a Daniel Downey and Mary Connell who had the following issue in Kilcolman-Coolcappa:

It may be that Daniel and Mary had issue prior to 1827. However, the Tithe Applotment books for Gortadroma include a Connor Downey rather than a Daniel Downey so the situation is somewhat more complicated than it seems initially (according to Mr Trant [of Foynes, Co Limerick], it was a Daniel Downey who left the land to Johanna Commane). Connor Downey leased 39 and 1/4 acres of land at Gortadroma in 1832. Perhaps Connor was Daniel's father and the Downey- Connell family lived with him in 1833.
