Patrick travelled to Australia with his mother, Catherine Shine, and his brothers John and Henry and sisters, Bridget, Cathleen, Mary and Margaret. Also on board were cousins, Mary Sheehy and Ellen Pierce.4 Between 1900 and 1940 Patrick Shine was an employee with the Melbourne City Council.

Research Notes:
Patrick's life-long friend was ? O'Connell whom he met on the ship. Both familes settled in Carlton. The O'Connell family lived in Lygon Street, Carlton above their shop. There are two known children, a son and daughter, Sheila, who in her latter years lived with Molly Shine in Palmerston Street, Carlton. Although O'Connell is a west Limerick name they were not related but I did find the following entry in the BDM index for Victoria

John O'Connell, born Limerick, married 1896 to Cath Shine, born Portland, Victoria Reg.
